Lightweight,
stable, and just plain fun. This boat is fun! The Q-Star was designed
by Ann Dwyer of California. It’s a kayak that is suitable
for non-kayakers. Stable, easy to paddle, and above all light. How
light? Well, we haven’t had to build a Kevlar® model yet,
but the fiberglass Q-Star weighs just 26 pounds. It’s 8' 11"
short and 27" stable (wide). You may have thought you didn’t
have a storage place for a kayak! The Q-Star changes all that. Stand
it up in a corner, put it behind the chesterfield or put it under
the bed. Its light weight makes it a breeze to cartop or put in
your hatch back. You can even carry it in an elevator.
The Q-Star’s sharp entry lines help it track well and the
low seat increases stability. It’s ideal for fishing, bird
watching or just poking about. It’s a lot more than just a
playboat. Several years ago, Ann stopped by our shop after paddling
the Bowron Lake Circuit, 88 miles in seven days. Her companions
were six other retired folks. Ann has paddled the Q-Star on the
Colorado and many other whitewater rivers. She has also logged miles
along the Pacific Coast in the Q-Star. This year, the optional foam
seat is available. For a little more comfort or slightly wider duffs,
this is your answer.
