After paddling a traditional wood paddle all my life, I switched to a performance wood bent-shaft paddle last year and it blew my mind. How could anything weigh so little? My canoe flew across the lakes. This year I bought the Raven and after one trip on the lake, I looked at my heavy wooden one in disgust and thumbed my nose at it. It's firewood, now. Carbon fiber all the way, every day. No longer do my shoulders ache from a million strokes. The downside is the devastation to the shoreline from the massive wakes I'm creating as I steam down the lake like an NDP-built Fast Ferry.
